GMA's "Zorro" star Richard Gutierrez filed a libel case against entertainment Web site Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) for allegedly false-fabricated story that gave a bad stain to his reputation.
With full force, he was accompanied by his family at Makati Fiscal’s Office, Monday April 13, 2009.
Richards is seeking P25 million in damages (P15 million in moral damages and P10 million in exemplary damages) from the respondents in the complaint: PEP editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon, managing editor Karen Pagsolingan, and staff writer Ferdinand Godinez.
Gutierrez said, “I'm doing this not only for myself but for my family, for my fans and maybe for the whole industry.”
The alleged fabricated story was upload on the PEP website that reports Richard Gutierrez's got involved in gun-pointing and scuffle incident with Michael Flores.
Both actors denies the report and strong expressed that there's no such incident happened.
PEP's editor-in-chief Joan Maglipon, has put out the said report on their website and published an apology to Gutierrez for "the premature and inadvertent uploading of the article" but the actor and his family were not satisfied.
Gutierrez slammed Maglipon for apologizing “for the wrong reasons.” He pointed out that PEP should have cleared his name and admitted that the story was false.
