Brock Lesnar Will Fight Frank Mir at UFC 81

Former WWE superstar Brock Lesnar will make his UFC debut on February 2nd in UFC 81 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Lesnar (1-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) talent and strength will be tested by former heavyweight champion Frank Mir (10-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC).

Lesnar, a former World Wrestling Entertainment performer who also had a short stint with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings, was one of the sport's top free agents after a 69-second submission victory over Min Soo Kim in a K-1 HERO'S Dynamite!! USA event this past June. The UFC officially announced that the 6-foot-3, 265-pounder had joined the organization last month during a UFC 77 pay-per-view broadcast.

“It’s an interesting matchup,” said UFC President Dana White. “Lesnar is a great wrestler, a good athlete, and this is definitely gonna be a big test for him. Frank Mir is a former world champion who is coming off a big win over Antoni Hardonk, and he’s looking to get his career back on track while Lesnar’s looking to walk into the UFC and prove what type of fighter he’s gonna be by trying to knock him off.”

Frank Mir (10-3) was on his way as one of the top new fighters in the UFC. He submitted Tim Sylvia in 50 seconds by breaking his arm in 2004 to win the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Mir had to later give up his championship belt after getting in a serious motorcycle accident that took him from fighting for nearly 2 years.
