Katie Holmes' "The Kennedys" Cancelled by The History Channel; "not a fit for the History brand."

We will have wait for a little bit to see Katie Holmes' portrayal as the iconic Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the eight-hour miniseries "The Kennedys" after The History Channel has decided to cancel the series' upcoming US broadcast.

A rep for the network tells THR:
“Upon completion of the production of The Kennedys, History has decided not to air the 8-part miniseries. After viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded that although the film is produced and acted with the highest quality auspices, the dramatic license the series takes is not suitable for the History brand.”
Included in this controversial film are Greg Kinnear playing the role of the late President John F. Kennedy, Barry Pepper as Attorney General Robert Kennedy and Tom Wilkinson as Joe Kennedy, Sr.

"The Kennedys" is still scheduled to air in Canada on March 6, as well as broadcast internationally.

Muse Entertainment and Asylum Entertainment, who co-produce the miniseries, issued this following statement about the cancellation (via Deadline):
"We are proud of the work all of our talent put into the making of The Kennedys and the painstaking efforts that went into creating a drama that is compelling while rich in historic detail. Although we regret this does not fit into the History Channel’s plans, we are confident that television viewers in the United States will join viewers from around the world in having an opportunity to watch this series in the near future."
The producers are planning to bring the miniseries to a pay cable channel.
